Back in the days, my friends and I would play room escape games online. A concept where you as the player would be locked in a room and have to find your way out by solving puzzles, find hidden compartments, manipulate objects, etc.
However, it is not that easy as each important clue or objects are interconnected.
The online game is now available in real life, giving people an opportunity to escape from locked rooms. Over the weekend, my friends and I went to ESC-IT for a chance to escape one of their harder rooms, The Cryptic Cellar.
Players have only 45 minutes to escape, and trust me, it challenges your critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork skills. Also, while you are “locked” in the room, you do have access to a key in case of emergencies, but using it will result in an automatic fail.
With the five of us, we had a good start, but we ended up being stumped and next thing you know, we were unable to escape and ended up on their Wall of Shame.
We’ll be back with a vengeance!
Overall, it was very fun experience. I loved how there is a back story to each room, which adds to realistic experience. It costs $25 per person, but if you check in on Facebook, you get 20% off. If you pay in cash, it is 20% off, and if you do both, it is 40% off.
Another thing to note is if your team does fail, they give you an opportunity to try again for $5/person.
