While in Melbourne, my friend Ken messaged me that Brickyard Grounds is opening up soon, potentially in time for my return. Back in March, he and I attempted to have brunch there, only to learn the neighbourhood fixture was closed due to a fire. Ken raves about their chicken and waffles and was highly ecstatic they were re-opening.
What makes Brickyard Grounds popular is their waffles, which are made from scratch.
Ken’s John Price Waffle ($11.95) – half savoury waffle with pulled pork, two poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, and served with chopped tomatoes, red onions and cilantro. We were told this was new to the menu.
I got their popular Brick Chicken Waffle ($11.95) – half savoury waffle topped with their signature pulled rotisserie chicken, mash potato, gravy and house-crusted Montreal smoked meat. I was actually picturing a fried chicken on top of a waffle, but OMG it is so good. The chicken was moist and the waffle was the ideal fluffy waffle. I think I would have liked to have some vegetables in the dish as it was a complete carb overload, but it was worth it.
Service was cheerful and attentive. Glad to have them back and running in the neighbourhood.
