Coffee Break: Balzac’s Coffee Roastery (Distillery District location)

I was recently back at the Distillery District (however, for work purposes)  where the Christmas Market just ended. Gone were the market vendors and the crowds. The lights and the 52ft Christmas tree still remains. It was nice to stroll around a bit and grab a cup of caffeinated drink at Balzac’s Coffee Roasters.

Balzac’s has multiple locations throughout Ontario, but this particular location in the Distillery is my favourite thus far. The cafe is housed in a historical circa 1985 Pump House, where they kept the brickwork and aesthetics inside, yet turned the space into a Parisian-style cafe with a great spot outside for people watching.

I decided to try one of their Winter drinks, the Toasted Almond Latte ($4.45 for medium), made with almond milk and toasted almond mocha syrup. Quite frankly, I was happy to find a drink that was made with almond milk by default. There’s a rich but not overwhelming flavour of toasted almond and because it is made with almond milk, it’s not a heavy drink at all.
