Eat: Portland Variety

On the corner of King West and Portland (I seemingly find myself in that area often now) sits Portland Variety, a European style cafe that offers weekend brunch and tapas style dishes in the evening. It is quite a popular spot for brunch, we had a 45 minute wait without making a reservation.

Brioche French Toast ($15) with strawberries and cream. There is a choice hazelnut praline but they were out of that. So. Good. It has knocked Cluny Bistro’s French toast off the pedestal.

Eggs Benedict ($14) with two poached eggs, prosciutto cotto, hollandaise and croissant. Sometimes I find that eggs benedicts aren’t very photogenic… but my brunch partner thoroughly enjoyed it since this is his second time having this.
