Surrounded by stone walls, gardens, turrets and moats is Osaka Castle, an impressive and iconic landmark in Osaka. The original castle played a role in unifying Japan during times of unrest.
The castle was destroyed and rebuilt many times due to wars throughout the years and a lightning storm.
Today, the castle is more of a historical museum, which visitors can visit (admission required). Even if you choose not to go in, the exterior view is still pretty impressive, plus the area is so vast that you can walk around and visit the nearby parks.
It is a popular destination during the Spring Cherry Blossom season. We also notice that many residents use the parks to jog and exercise.
