Eat: Le Gourmand

Le Gourmand has what is considered the best chocolate chip cookie in Toronto. It has a crispy exterior and a soft, chewy centre. But the best part is the melty chocolate chips, even at room temperature.

It’s definitely a cheat day cookie though if you’re having a cookie by yourself, but the one cookie is enough to share amongst two people.

I think each cookie costs $4.00

Pictured here with Le Gourmand’s Chocolate Chip Cookie is the Ogura Kaori Hojicha I picked up from Marukyu Koyamaen in Kyoto.

Edit: So happy that take out is available when you’re craving for those cookies.

Chocolate Croissant ($3.75)

Almond Croissant and Chocolate Croissant. These were good, but they don’t quite come to par with my favourite, Tasso.

Chocolate Walnut and Chocolate Chip cookies

The cookies are bomb and 10x better than the croissants.

The Chocolate Walnut cookie is slightly better than the Chocolate Chip cookie, but otherwise both are good choices. Soft, buttery and the gooey chocolate. So good!!

Eat: Sekai No Yamachan (Shinjuku, Tokyo)

This was our last meal in Japan…

Based in Nagoya, Sekai no Yamachan has several locations throughout Japan, and is known for their Tebasaki (deep-fried chicken wings)

Maboroshi no Tebasaki (480¥, for 5 pieces, approximately $5.80 CAD)

Their most popular item on the menu is the Maboroshi no Tebasaki. The fried chicken wings are doused in a spicy soy and mirin-based sauce and covered in salt and pepper. It is pretty addictive; 5 pieces isn’t enough, so you will probably end up ordering more. They go so well with beer or Kaku Highball (whisky and soda, 390¥ for a single, approximately $4.70 CAD).

Cassis Oolong (450¥) – Cassis liqueur and oolong tea

I went with a Cassis Oolong, since I love tea and alcohol. It’s essentially a fruity-flavoured tea.

We order a few other items, because we initially didn’t feel like eating just chicken wings. They ended up making us wish we just got the OG chicken wings, because it wasn’t as good as the chicken wings.

Toributa gyoza (390¥, approximately $4.70 CAD) – chicken and pork gyoza

Tori no Tattaage (450¥, approximately $5.40 CAD) – crispy tatsuta fried chicken

This is simply karaage fried chicken. If it was chicken cartilage, I may have liked this more.

Hidenno kurotebasaki (420¥ for 3 pieces, approximately $5.00 CAD) – sauced deep-fried chicken wings

Don’t get these, they aren’t worth it compared to the popular Maboroshi no Tebasaki.

Menu has English on it, so it’s tourist-friendly. Smoke and non-smoking sections are available.
