Eat: Supreme Taste

When long time East Chinatown BBQ shop, Sing Sing BBQ House closed as the owners retired, a new player took over the space to offer Chinese BBQ staples and dishes like congee, stir-fry and more.

My parents come here for the BBQ meats now, and occasionally we’ll get some BBQ meats as well here while grocery shopping in East Chinatown. Once we were craving for dim sum, so we decided to try it out. However, it seems like most people who dine-in go for the congee, noodles and set meals.

If anything, they are one of the two place in East Chinatown that has dim sum a la carte.

Steamed Shrimp Rice Roll ($6.95)
Har Gow ($6.95)
Soup Dumplings ($5.95)
Bean Curd Roll
Chicken Feet in Black Bean Sauce ($6.95)
Siu Mai ($6.95)

It’s not the best, but it’ll do when you have a bit of a craving for dimsum. After all, people don’t come here for dim sum, rather they come here for the BBQ meats and other Chinese dishes.

Eat: Tim Ho Wan (New York City)

During my trip to Hong Kong, I visited Tim Ho Wan, the one Michelin star dim sum restaurant and completely missed it after I left HK. Their famous baked BBQ pork buns is something I cannot find anywhere. Earlier this year. Tim Ho Wan opened their first North American location in New York City, it is for now, the closest location.

Tim Ho Wan… if you read this, PLEASE OPEN A LOCATION IN CANADA!! SPECIFICALLY IN TORONTO!!!!!

Since both Jeff and I terribly miss Tim Ho Wan, we had to visit their NYC location. Like their HK locations, there is a line up for a table. The noticeable difference from what I can remember (I’m totally behind on posts! Visit was back in May) is there’s no communal seating (which is totally normal in HK) and they were playing Rihanna songs (no joke! Songs with faster tempo makes you eat faster and GTFO).

Har Gow (steamed shrimp dumplings) – $4.50 USD and Siu Mai (steamed pork dumplings with shrimp) – $4.50 USD

Sticky rice with pork in lotus leaf – $5.50 USD

Steamed bean curd with meat and vegetables – $4.50 USD

Baked bun with BBQ pork (3 pieces) – $4.95 USD

Steamed rice roll with shrimp and Chinese chives – $5.25 USD

Prices are a bit on the higher end, especially for dim sum. We didn’t order as much as we would have like to as it was only us two. It is ideal to have more people to enjoy dim sum with, but keep in mind that you may have a longer wait time with a larger group.
