Eat: Dine & Dim

When it comes to dim sum on the east side, there is not much options available. I remember in the 90s and early 2000s, east Chinatown had historic spots for dim sum and Chinese cuisine. A lot has changed with the neighbourhood; closures of mainstay businesses, long-time residents move away to different parts of the city, gentrification and other factors.

Dine & Dim is one of the very, very few places that has dim sum in east Chinatown. The spot occupies the space of a well known restaurant in the neighbourhood, Pearl Court Restaurant. In 2019, Pearl Court closed, leaving the city with one less place tht had cart service dim sum. New owners took over and renamed it Dine & Dim.

After our trip to Italy, we were craving for dim sum after weeks of pizza, pasta and and more pasta. We decided to try Dine & Dim.

Steamed Shrimp Rice Rolls ($7.50)
Siu Mai pork and shrimp dumplings ($7.99)
Har Gow shrimp dumplings ($7.99)
Steamed beef tripe with ginger and green onions ($7.50)
Bean curd rolls with pork ($7.50)
Lotus sticky rice with pork ($4.99)

The dim sum was ok, not the best and quite pricey. Personally, I wouldn’t come back here for dim sum and would rather go for dim sum at Spadina chinatown. Gone are the days of busy weekend mornings for dim sum here.
